In 1971, two young men who had no money, but had passion, started making speakers in the garage of their house. In 1972, Matthew Polk, George Cropfer and Sandy Gross founded Polk Audio. In 1975, they completed the Monitor 7 speaker, officially called the Model 7, which was a huge success. In 2012, Polk, became the leading speaker company in the United States.
For these fifty years, Polk released an anniversary speaker in a limited edition of 1000 pairs, the Polk R200AE (Anniversary Edition).
The R200AE anniversary model was developed based on the R200 model already in circulation. The difference between them is also in the appearance. The R200 has a high quality vinyl covering, the R200AE has a dark cherry finish in natural wood veneer. Interior changes to the anniversary model include: The crossover, where we find air coils where the plain R200 has core coils, higher quality capacitors, resistors, gold plated terminals and a better board.
On the back of the speaker are engraved the signature, serial number and a plaque with the original Polk Audio logo. We should note that the Polk 200 is a base speaker with a 1-inch tweeter and 6.5-inch woofer, having a bass-reflection hole in the back.
