TRANSFORMING AUDIO SINCE 1968
Cambridge Audio has been innovating and engineering transparent, beautifully crafted British audio equipment since the groundbreaking P40 amplifier in 1968. Pioneering the use of toroidal transformers, the P40’s legacy lives on, and naturally, the EXA100 features an advanced, heavily shielded, ultra-quiet toroidal transformer. It’s flanked by polished, heavy-duty heat sinks visible through the top grilles, ensuring both performance and striking design.
The EXA100’s amplifier modules are based on those of the Edge M power amp, utilizing the same high-end power transistors for premium sound at a fraction of the cost. The amplifier’s intricate design extends to four-layer PCBs and a proprietary CAP protection system, which uses multiple methods to detect potential issues and prevent power or temperature overloads. With meticulous attention to grounding and outputting 100W per channel of Class AB power, the result is richly detailed, dynamic sound that brings music to life.
STAY CONNECTED
The EXA100 boasts comprehensive connectivity, suited to modern hi-fi setups. On the analogue side, there’s a set of Balanced XLRs and three RCA stereo inputs, along with a front-mounted 6.3mm headphone jack, stereo pre-out, and subwoofer pre-out for adding more bass to your system. Two sets of speaker outputs allow you to power audio in two rooms or connect a secondary speaker pair for outdoor use.
Digitally, the EXA100 excels with its ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC and a range of inputs including HDMI eARC for simple TV connections and volume control via the TV remote. It also supports USB Audio, digital coaxial, and two TOSLINK optical inputs, while Bluetooth aptX HD offers wireless streaming convenience, including from a Cambridge Audio Alva turntable.
POWER AMP MODE
Switching the EXA100 to Power Amp Mode transforms it into a dedicated stereo power amplifier, perfect for pairing with a preamp of your choice. It’s an ideal match for the EXN100 music streamer, which features its own Preamp Mode. The EXN100 handles streaming and volume control, easily managed through the StreamMagic app, while the EXA100 delivers powerful, detailed sound. Together, they form a perfect pair, providing both brains and brawn for your audio system.
THOUGHTFUL DESIGN
Innovation didn’t stop at the performance level—the EXA100 boasts a sleek new design with standout features such as a milled aluminum front panel and a tactile, knurled volume knob. It’s an amplifier that looks as impressive as it sounds, with its striking visual appeal matched by its powerful performance.
The EXA100’s Lunar Grey finish and bold center panel perfectly complement the EXN100, creating a cohesive visual experience. The new EX Series also introduces a redesigned remote control, included with the EXA100, that can also operate the EXN100.
